Install the extension
Add meaty to Chrome, pin it to the toolbar, and sign in.
The Chrome extension records meetings that run in a browser tab — Google Meet, Zoom on the web, Teams on the web — without the desktop app. It lives in Chrome's side panel.
You need: Chrome 116 or newer. Other Chromium browsers (Edge, Brave, Arc): To be confirmed
Install
- Open meaty.me on the Chrome Web Store.
- Click Add to Chrome and confirm.
Pin it to the toolbar
You start every recording by clicking meaty's icon, so keep it visible: click the puzzle piece in Chrome's toolbar, then the pin next to meaty.me.
- Click the meaty icon. The side panel opens.
- Click Sign in. Google and GitHub sign-in open in a small window.
- Back in the panel, you're signed in within a few seconds. If not, click I'm signed in — refresh.
Already signed in to meaty.me in this Chrome profile? The extension uses that sign-in.
First run
The panel walks you through How meaty records a meeting (three steps), then a Before you record checklist:
- Pin meaty to the toolbar — it checks for you.
- Microphone — Chrome asks once. Allow it now, so it doesn't interrupt your first meeting.
- Tab — how tab audio is captured; see Record a browser meeting.
What it asks permission for
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
| Side panel | meaty runs in Chrome's side panel. |
| Tab capture, active tab, tabs | To record the audio of the meeting tab you choose, and show its title. |
| Offscreen document | Keeps the recording running when the panel is closed. |
| Storage | Your settings, and a local copy of recordings until they upload. |
| Access to meaty.me | Your meaty sign-in. |
| Runs on all sites | Shows the small handle on the page edge that reopens the panel during a recording. |
Shortcut
Alt+Shift+M closes the panel. Change it at
chrome://extensions/shortcuts.
Updates
Chrome updates the extension from the Web Store by itself. When the panel has a newer version ready, it shows an update strip and applies it only when you're not recording.
