# Record an in-person meeting

*Updated 2026-10-20*

Put the phone on the table, tap once, and talk. meaty turns the recording
into notes when you stop.

## Start

1. Open meaty from your home screen.
2. Choose what you're recording: a **meeting** or a quick **note**.
3. Optional: set the **language** and the **template** for this recording
with the chips. Leave them alone and meaty picks.
4. Tap to start.

## While you record

- **Tap** to pause, tap again to resume. **Long press** to stop.
- The screen stays awake while recording.
- Play, pause and stop also work from the lock screen.
- Locking the phone or switching apps:

## Weak or no connection

Every recording is also saved on your phone as it goes, so a bad connection
never loses it.

- **No connection at all:** recording still works. When you stop, meaty says
**Recording saved on this device — it will upload when you're back online.**
- The upload starts by itself when the connection comes back, or when you
open meaty again. You can also tap it in **Pending uploads** to retry.
- **Private browsing** can't keep a copy on the phone, so it needs a
  connection to record.

## When you stop

meaty shows **Making sense of it** while it transcribes and writes the notes.
You can start a new recording straight away. The finished meeting appears in
your library — see [How notes are made](/docs/how-notes-are-made).

## Limits

- **Free plan:** a single recording can run 30 minutes. At that point a
countdown appears — **Free plan — recording ends in…** — and after five
more minutes the recording stops and is saved.
- **Out of minutes:** a new recording can't start, and meaty points you to
your plan. A recording already running is never cut off for minutes.

See [Plans and minutes](/docs/plans-and-minutes) for the details.
