# Record a browser meeting

*Updated 2026-10-20*

## Start

1. Join the meeting in a Chrome tab.
2. On **that tab**, click the meaty icon. This click is what allows Chrome
to share the tab's audio — it has to happen on the meeting tab itself.
3. The panel reads **Ready · mic ✓ · will capture:** followed by the tab's
title. Check it's the right tab.
4. Pick what to record:
   - **Mic + tab** (default) — your voice and everyone on the call.
   - **Mic** — only your microphone.
5. Start recording.

## While you record

- Pause and resume from the panel.
- **Closing the panel doesn't stop the recording.** The meaty icon shows a
REC badge, and a small handle on the right edge of the page reopens the
  panel.
- You keep hearing the call normally.

## Start from your meaty library instead

On meaty.me, click **Record → A meeting**. meaty lists your open tabs; pick
the meeting. Then it asks for **one more step — click the meaty icon on the
meeting tab** to approve capturing it.

## Meetings in desktop apps

The extension can only record meetings running in a Chrome tab. A call in
the Zoom or Teams desktop app can't be captured — join from the browser
instead, record with your [phone](/docs/record-in-person), or use the
[desktop app](/docs/record-on-desktop).

## Weak or no connection

Recordings are kept in Chrome until they upload, so a dropped connection
doesn't lose them. **Incognito windows** can't keep that copy: there, meaty
needs a connection to record.

## Limits

The same plan limits apply as everywhere — on the free plan a single
recording can run 30 minutes, plus a five-minute countdown. See
[Plans and minutes](/docs/plans-and-minutes).
