# Phone troubleshooting

## The microphone is blocked

meaty shows **Microphone access is needed to record.** You turned off
microphone access for meaty at some point; turn it back on in your phone's
settings, then reopen meaty.

## A recording is stuck in Pending uploads

Recordings that haven't reached meaty yet are listed in your library under
**Pending uploads**. The status says what's happening:

| Status | What it means |
|---|---|
| Waiting for connection | No connection. It uploads by itself when you're back online. |
| Uploading… | On its way. |
| Processing… | Uploaded; the notes are being written. |
| Upload failed — tap to retry | Tap it to try again. |
| Out of minutes — tap to retry | Your plan has no minutes left this month. See [Plans and minutes](/docs/plans-and-minutes). |

Don't delete a pending recording unless you mean to — until it uploads, the
copy on your phone is the only one.

## "Failed to start session"

This happens in **private browsing while offline**: private browsing can't
keep a copy on the phone, and there's no connection to send it to. Reconnect,
or open meaty outside private browsing.

## meaty isn't updating

When an update is ready, a strip offers **Update**. If you tapped **Not
now**, it comes back later. During a recording the update waits until you
stop — that's deliberate.

## The install banner disappeared

Dismissing it hides it for good on that phone. See
[Install on your phone](/docs/install-on-your-phone) for installing from the
browser menu instead.
