# API keys

**Availability:** *(To be confirmed.)*

An API key lets a tool act as you — read-only — without your password.
Keys are used by [Zapier](/docs/zapier) and the
[MCP connector](/docs/mcp-connector). meaty has no general-purpose public
API.

## Create a key

In the web or desktop app: **Settings → Developers → API keys**.

1. Give the key a name, so you know later what it's for.
2. Copy the key — it starts with `meaty_sk_`. **It's shown once.** meaty
   keeps only a fingerprint of it and can't show it again.

You can have up to 10 keys.

## Use a key

Send it as a bearer token:

```
Authorization: Bearer meaty_sk_…
```

## Keep track of keys

The list shows each key's name, its first characters and when it was last
used, so you can spot one you no longer need.

## Revoke a key

Delete it. The next request using it is refused.
